Years ago, timing analysis was a design flow step distinct from place and route. There were 'timing engineers' and file handoffs between separate tools until that capability was folded into the place and route data models. Now, timing drives many of the layout decisions, and while there are still timing specialists, their roles are different, more focused. At advanced node designs, starting at 45 nm and becoming more serious at 32 nm, the physics of IC manufacturing is ushering the next phase of great productivity growth through advancements in physical design software.

Many times I get asked what are the best ways to bring a new product to market. Or, someone has a startup that needs to get some marketing traction. One of the most common questions are, what’s the best way to do press releases? I always tell people that press releases have multiple audiences: the press, investors, competitors, and customers, and not necessarily in that order. Another common question is: How do I improve my ranking with Google? A former colleague of mine, Mark Shapiro, has written a nice little piece on getting the most out of your press releases....

I just received this engaging and informative article from Cees Links, the CEO and founder of GreenPeak Technologies. If you aren’t familiar with GreenPeak, their mesh networks are enabled by the use of energy harvesting devices, all while aiming not to compromise performance like range, data rate or reliability. If you’ve ever wondered why on earth you can unlock your car door remotely but not your house, then by all means read on...

I just read the April 2010 issue of Discover Magazine. Two articles on physics and time blew my socks off. My mind is reeling with the possibilities of what I just read (and no, this is NOT an April Fool's joke by the magazine or by me).

Held in San Jose on March 18, The ICT Green Boot Camp  Features Interactive Panel Discussions on Green Design and Market Access, Policy and the Low-Carbon Economy and Business Opportunities in Green ICT  It looks like the TIA has gotten on the sustainability bandwagon – and not a moment too soon. This workshop/boot camp should provide an excellent overview on why and how environmental performance is rapidly becoming a must-have checkbox for the electronic equipment being purchased by many government agencies and corporations. Although this half-day event is intended primarily for tech managers and a bit further up the food...

Statistics just released show a precipitous drop off in the number of automobile deaths annually—a fact that is due in no small part to microelectronics, enabled  by MCUs, DSPs, FPGAs, etc, for active safety and driver assistance systems, along with increased seat belt use.
