Cisco's CRS-3 Hype, and the QuantumFlow ArrayBy Loring Wirbel, communications analyst Some network planner at Facebook is obviously ecstatic, since Cisco Systems Inc. introduced its uber-high-end Carrier Routing System 3 (CRS-3) March 9, featuring an aggregate throughput of 322 Terabits per second. Notice the company is still using that “Carrier” moniker, even though the people that care the most about ultimate throughput are the social network barons running dedicated data centers. Don Lee of Facebook was just at an Ethernet conference, complaining to stunned attendees that he just can’t get Terabit Ethernet at a decent price. |

My name is Carolyn Mathas. Some of you may know me from the EETimes network properties Network Systems DesignLline, Mobile Handset DesignLine, or even from a long time ago at Lightwave Magazine. Whether our paths have crossed before, let me tell you a bit about this community.
My goal is to give you additional tools in the form of news, articles, book excerpts, industry interviews, white papers, blogs, and analysis to help you do your job better, faster, etc. If it has to do with networks, it's fair game on this site. To that end, I would like to not only invite you to visit often, but also to become an active member of this community. Give feedback, rate articles, contribute content, make suggestions (constructively please). I intend to give you content ranging from basic tutorial articles to a recap of the latest and greatest products to hit the marketplace, all the way through to book reviews (I hope you like a good read as much as I do).
To reach me with questions, comments, or pats on the head, send emails to Carolyn@techbites.com.
Now, let's get going!
