Maxim Integrated Products has announced its MAX9621 dual two-wire Hall-sensor interface, which provides both analog and digital outputs for a variety of automotive applications. The interface’s analog output gives continuous proportional outputs for shaft-speed and shaft-position monitoring tasks. The digital output features a resistor-programmable threshold, useful for limit-detection tasks for window lifters, seat movers, electric sunroof drives, and seatbelt-buckle detection.

The MAX9621 operates on supplies in the range of 5.5 to 18 V and withstands potentials as large as 60 V to protect against load-dump conditions. The over-voltage protection extends to the Hall-effect sensors as well. The interface also provides blanking on startup and safe responses to Hall shorts to ground and to the battery potential. Maxim specifies the 3 mm X 5 mm IC for operation over the full -40 °C to +125 °C automotive temperature range. Pricing starts at $0.87 (1000) and the datasheet is available online.
