Founded by the World Computer Exchange, eCorps brings computer and communication technologies to developing economies.  Right now they have 4 exciting trips scheduled for 2010. Experience the beautiful foothills of the Himalayas or the vibrant villages in El Salvador. Volunteers will be traveling in teams of 7 and assist their  Partners that have received WCE computers with troubleshooting, training and technical support. It's a great way to do something great for the world and see a lot more of it at the same time.

To be eligible, volunteers must be 21 years of age, have some prior tech skills - plus a willingness to participate in technology-related tasks and education. For certain trips there are some language requirements. Trip participants visit local families and enjoy a variety of opportunities to experience the local culture. eCorps volunteers who have gone on prior trips have evaluated their trips as “life changing” and “excellent”. Here are links to eCorps' up-coming trips:

Taking a Trip? Become a WCE Traveler

If you cannot particpiate in one of WCE's organized tours, you can still help as a WCE Traveler. A new WCE Chicago volunteer, Yumi Masuoka was planning on going to Cameroon and was interested in doing what she could to help. And she did: Yumi met with representatives of 15 groups in Bamenda, Cameroon interested in receiving used working computers from WCE as part of a upcoming shared container. She gathered information, answered basic questions about WCE and encouraged the groups to get to know each other so they would be comfortable sharing a shipment. Interested in being a WCE Traveler?
